The Social Safety Department of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Ministry has sent 38000 gabions to prevent the floods in the areas exposed to flood.
Nasser Ahmad Popal, Social Safety Head, clarified that the department will send a large number of gabions to the vulnerable areas in the second round as well. "Generally 34000 gabions will be sent to the vulnerable provinces according to the preventive plan of this Ministry."
He said the environment experts believe that there will be more rains by the outset of the year. He said that Afghanistan is a mountainous country with only 25 percent of the agricultural area so there are preventive plans to continue the Work for Food Program with the help of World Food Program if the suburbs are facing food shortage.
He also stated that a new program will be used to build small classic dams on the route to flood embankments in which locals in the suburbs will play a great role. "We will restrain the water by any possible way with the people's physical force.
This water will create a green-bed in the areas exposed to floods risks so far." It is said that the project will be first experienced then it will be expanded to the provinces if it gives good results.
