The Municipality Department of Herat Province has recently started the plantation of thousands of saplings
According to Herat officials, establishment of the green belt, green environment, and thousands of saplings are the basic plans of military and civilian officials being carried out during the green month.
Five million fruitful and unfruitful saplings are to be planted in the provincial capital and districts of Herat Province in the green month, said Eng Aminullah Amin, Deputy to Herat Municipality. He stated about the purpose of sapling plantation program: "We aim to make it a culture in Herat to continue forever. You might have heard that Herat was once called the city of pile trees in the past because you could see the pile trees from the east to the west. The roadsides were full of pile trees and other trees."
The Deputy to Herat Municipality thanked the people, business companies, and village leaders in the implementation of this program. In the outset of saplings plantation program, Dr Ahmad Yusuf Nuristani, Herat Governor, called on the people to make their city green by planting one sapling each person. "I am expecting even from the poor families to plan one or two fruitful or even fruitful sapling this year in order to do his/her share in making the country green and have a green future. The next generation will pray to you and will say that our ancestors were very responsible people by inheriting a green land to us."
The Governor also asked the people to protect the planted saplings. Supporting the authorities' decision, a local resident in Herat said: "People are for sure optimistic and I want to assure you that we will plan saplings in front of houses and shops to make both our city green and prevent the weather pollution."
Herat Municipality launches the saplings plantation program every year just for one month through which over 5 million fruitful and unfruitful saplings were planted last year both in the provincial capital and districts of that province.
