Afghan Basketball team wins the Asian Games

BasketballAfghanistan won the 11th South Asion Championship title held in Bangladesh. The final round of competition launched between Afghanistan and India ended at the benefit of the Afghan team.

Saboor Azizi, Head of Basketball Federation in a telephone chat from Bangladesh to radio Sada-e-Azadi, said "It was four seconds to the end of competition that Nafi an Afghan Basketball athlete achieved two points and defeat its partner in two points ahead."

He further added that, the scores of both teams were equal until the last seconds of the competition. Suddenly, in the last four seconds of the game Nafi an Afghan Basketball athlete could achieve two points to the benefit of their team and won the game. Previously, the Afghan team was capable to defeat Pakistan, India and Sri-lankan teams and found way to semi final round.

The Afghan Basketball team was able to achieve 107 scores in Semi Final and defeat Nepal team. Azizi also said that, huge numbers of Afghans came to the gymnasium to encourage Afghan athletes.

He adds: "Many people have come to the gymnasium to encourage afghan athletes. Also, we want to say thanks to Bangladeshi team because they have also encouraged and welcome Afghan basketball team."

Also, the Afghan Football team was able to found way to semi final round and compete with south-Asian teams.  The team has defeated Maldives' Football team and found way to the final round.

South-Asian competition is currently underway in Bangladesh and athletes from India have so far achieved 40 Gold medals, 17 silver and 10 bronze, Pakistan with 31 medals at second position, Bangladesh with 34 medals at third position, Sri-Lanka with 37 medals at fourth position and Afghan with 1 Gold medal and five silvers at fifth position, Nepal with 7 medals at sixth position but Maldives and Botal don’t have medal yet. Totally, 182 medals have been given to the participated teams in the competition.
