President stresses increased women’s role in public sector

president-ghani-6President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday said increased participation of the Afghan women in various government sectors would bring about peace that would guarantee the defence of their rights.

The president met with 400 policewomen who recently returned from Turkey after completing a training course, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

It quoted President Ghani as telling the policewomen their decision to join the police force should be praised in the face of cultural restrictions.
“All of you are my daughters, so the first lady and I would try for your security and safety. Equal facilities and better working environment should be provided by the police brothers to their police sisters.”

The president said Afghanistan had suffered a lot due to the decades of war and the country needed justice to be cured.
He said all men, women, wealthy and poor, old and young approached police to seek justice. “And you should respond to like a responsible youth of the country,” he said, while advising the officers.
“It should be realised that wide participation of Afghan women in the government would bring about peace that would defend their rights.”
