This workshop was organised by the Afghanistan Institute for Rural Development (AIRD) of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) for 110 surveyors participating from 34 provinces of the country.
During a course of five days, the workshop focused on key areas of data collection, including methods of data collection, statistics of students and teachers, verification of information and utilizing data from Ministry of Education’s Information System. Mr. Mukhtar Ghafarzoi, Director of AIRD said, “As per the instructions of the President of Afghanistan, H.E. Muhammad Ashraf Ghani, MRRD was designated alongside Ministry of Education to collect accurate figures and statistics relating to education.” In light of this directive, the workshop was organized to provide practical guidance and methods to surveyors, who are set to survey 1,000 schools across 117 districts over the country, where the Citizens’ Charter Program is also set to launch from these districts. Commending AIRD’s work, H.E. Attiqullah Khawasi, the Deputy Minister for Finance and Administration of MRRD, called upon the surveyors to collect data and statistics with utmost accuracy and sincereity, as all future plans of the Ministry of Education will be based and driven by the facts they gather. Also, a number of representatives from the Ministry of Education and other Institutions who work in this field, spoke in detail on the role and importance of such workshops, the need for accuracy in data for active and inactive schools, statistics on students and teachers and the reasons behind inactive schools. They reiterated the effective and valuable role of MRRD in the development and implementation of the forthcoming Citizens’ Charter program.
