Afghanistan celebrates first ANSDF Day

Afghanistan celebrated first National Security and Defense Forces Day on Monday, including a military parade in Kabul participated by the president.

The celebration came after the government dedicated 9 Hoot (Afghan calendar) as Armed Forces Day to praise their “bravery and sacrifice.”

“Today is the day when the Afghan nation thank and appreciate their security and defense forces,” President Ashraf Ghani said addressing the forces during the ceremony at military airfield in Kabul.
“It is because of your sacrifice that the country is independent and will remain independent for thousands of years.”
He also saluted King Amanullah Khan who reined in Afghanistan from 1919 when the country achieved full independence from British Empire, calling him a “national hero.”
Ghani mentioned several recent operations by Afghan forces including killing of Taliban shadow governor in Kunduz Salam.
Commenting on air force, Ghani said that the Afghan pilots can fly aircraft with poor condition.
Ghani hoped that the country’s 100 years of independence in 2019 will be celebrated in Kabul’s historical Darul Aman palace which is being restored.
“Long live Afghanistan!” he concluded.
