Vehicles donated to counternarcotics police

MCNThe United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on Tuesday donated 12 vehicles to counternarcotics police in four provinces, officials said.

The donation would help arrest drug smugglers and counternarcotics operations, said Deputy Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Baz Mohammad Ahmadi. He commended the assistance.
Eight of the vehicles had technical equipment, he said, adding that the rest would be given to police in Kabul, Nangarhar, Herat and Badakhshan provinces. “This is a good step toward enhancing the strength of counternarcotics police.”

According to the official, the ministry’s achievements have been considerable despite a cut in foreign assistance to Afghanistan.
Over the past week, 293 kilograms of drugs, including hashish, opium and heroines, were seized at gates to Kabul.
Speaking on the occasion, a UNODC representative said they had provided $73 million for poppy eradication for Afghanistan since 2007
