UN arranges meeting on strengthening audit

UNWith the support of both of presidential hopefuls, the United Nations on Wednesday convened a meeting at the Independent Election Commission (IEC) headquarters to strengthen the audit of run-off results.

Participants included the stakeholders involved in the comprehensive audit, including the UN, the IEC, international and domestic observers and supervisors from each candidate’s team of agent representatives.
A statement from UNAMA said the purpose of the meeting was to capture best practices developed during the last six days of auditing, to refine the procedure for dispute resolution, improve security access protocols and further clarify the roles of the various participants.
A small group of representatives from the campaign teams and officials from the IEC and the UN Development Programme’s Enhancing Legal And Electoral Capacity For Tomorrow II (UNDP ELECT II) met in the afternoon to formalise a detailed protocol on procedures that will be put into effect on Thursday morning.
