Ghani vows foreign aid accountability system



President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has said his government wants to work with the World Bank (WB) and other international financial institutions for Afghanistan’s development.

The president was talking to WB country director for Afghanistan Bob Saum, who called on him at the Presidential Palace on Monday evening, a statement from the president spokesman’s office said on Tuesday.“We are trying to work in a proper way while taking forward affairs in government departments,” the president said, promising the creation of an effective accountability system to ensure that foreign aid was rightly utilised in Afghanistan.The WB official briefed the president about his bank’s activities in Afghanistan and renewed the bank’s commitment of a long-term assistance to the war-torn country.
