President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani accepted today at a formal ceremony the diplomatic credentials of Vahdat Mommadagha Sultan-Zadeh, the new non-resident ambassador of Azerbaijan to Afghanistan. Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani also attended the ceremony.
After the ceremony that was held in ARG this morning, President Ghani discussed with the new non-resident ambassador of Azerbaijan ways to enhance relations and cooperation between the two countries.
The new ambassador of Azerbaijan presented the greetings and good wishes of the President and Foreign Minister of his country to President Ghani and people of Afghanistan.
Mr. Vahdat Mommadagha Sultan-Zadeh said that Afghanistan and Azerbaijan are two brotherly countries. He stated that about one thousand Afghans reside in Azerbaijan underscoring that the government of Azerbaijan was happy with it.
Mr. Vahdat Mommadagha Sultan-Zadeh also said that Azerbaijani investors and businessmen are interested in investing in economic and cultural areas in Afghanistan and that practical measures will be taken in this regard by the end of the current year.
In return, President Ghani asked Mr. Vahdat Mommadagha Sultan-Zadeh to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to the President of Azerbaijan.
The President said that within the next two years some seventy percent of our trade will take place via Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia and Turkey, which is also known as the Lapis-lazuli Route.
The President appreciated the decision of Azerbaijan to invest in Afghanistan highlighting that the investments focus on infrastructure.
The President added that Afghanistan uses about one million tons of construction cement each year and investment in this area would benefit both Afghanistan and Azerbaijan. In view of the growing relations and interactions, the President asked Azerbaijan to open an embassy in Afghanistan.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani wished Vahdat Mommadagha Sultan-Zadeh success in his new posting and the new ambassador said that he is pleased with his new mission and will make all the necessary efforts to further enhance relations between the two countries.
