Ghani urges EU investment in Afghanistan



President Ashraf Ghani said on Wednesday the government would provide every facility foreign investors needed in Afghanistan.

The president was talking to Peter Claes, the new ambassador of Belgium to Afghanistan, during a meeting at the Presidential Palace, a statement from the palace said.Ambassador Claes presented his credentials to the president and conveyed greetings and a message from the King of Belgium.The meeting discussed in detail bilateral relations, the statement said, adding that President Ghani asked European countries to invest in Afghanistan.The president also thanked Belgium for its military role as part of NATO in Afghanistan and support for Afghanistan in the European Union (EU).Claes said his country wanted to see a stable and prosperous Afghanistan, something not possible without cooperation of the international community.He said Afghanistan was a proper place for investment and it was Belgium’s priority to invest and improve its business ties with Afghanistan.The president said the flow of investment to Afghanistan had increased in different sectors following his official trips China and India, adding Belgium and other European countries could also get benefits from the available opportunities.
