Procurement committee approves 4 of 15 contracts



The National Procurement Committee (NPC) said on Sunday that after evaluating 15 major government contracts, only four had been approved.

The 15 contracts were pertaining to Ministries of Defence, Public Works, Agriculture, Urban Development, Information Technology and Communications, National Directorate of Security (NDS) and Da Afghanistan Brishna Sherkat (DABS), said a statement from the Presidential Palace.According to the statement, four contracts from ministries of defence and urban development worth more than 700 million afghanis have been approved.Suggestions for amending and extending nine more contracts from ministries of agriculture, information technology and communications and public works were also approved.Two contracts of the NDS and DABS were postponed to the next meeting for further study.President Ashraf Ghani also directed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) be signed between ministries of communications and public works for implementation of optic fiber projects.The construction and technical aspects of the projects should also be differentiated, the statement added.The president has also directed thorough analysis and evaluation of the public works ministry’s projects.The meeting, chaired by the president, was held on Saturday evening with the presence of Sarwar Danish, second vice-president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah.
