Stoning of girl in Ghor to be thoroughly investigated: Ghani



President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Wednesday condemned the stoning of a girl in western Ghor province as un-Islamic and inhuman act.

On Oct. 25, local Taliban publicly stoned to death a 19 years old girl, Rokhshana, on the charge of adultery with an unmarried man, who was also whipped in Awdak Ghaleem village on the outskirts of Ferozkoh, the provincial capital.Ghani denounced the outrage, saying criminals were behind the act that violated the constitution. All laws in force in the country were based on Islamic Shariah, he said in a statement from the Presidential Palace.The president appointed a high-level team to thoroughly investigate the heinous crime from all angles and present its findings to the Presidential Palace, the statement added.Representatives from the Ministry of Interior, National Directorate of Security, Attorney General Office, Independent Directorate of Local Governance and the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission are part of the delegation.During a meeting with civil society members, Abdullah said the government had decided to probe the stoning, which would be discussed at the next meeting of the National Security Council.Meanwhile, Interior Minister Noor-ul-Haq Ulumi also vehemently flayed the incident and ordered the provincial police to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible.
