Ghani And Abdullah Officially Open New MoD Building

President Ashraf Ghani and CEO Abdullah Abdullah on Monday afternoon inaugurated the new Ministry of Defense building in Kabul city.


In attendance were high-ranking officials including acting defense minister Masoom Stanekzai along with NATO's Resolute Support Commander Gen. John F. Campbell.
According to officials, the building took 10 years to complete and cost an estimated $160 miPresident Ashraf Ghani and CEO Abdullah Abdullah on Monday afternoon inaugurated the new Ministry of Defense building in Kabul city.
In attendance were high-ranking officials including acting defense minister Masoom Stanekzai along with NATO's Resolute Support Commander Gen. John F. Campbell.
The building is commonly known as the 'Little Pentagon' because its design is similar to the U.S's version.
In his address to dignitaries attending the event, Ghani said a war is imposed on the nation, but our army has presented a paradigm of bravery and courage - let's pray for our martyred soldiers, He also assured the families of martyred soldiers that he will stand by them.
He said that 2015 has been a tough year but thanked all armed services for their efforts to keep the country secure.
"We are determined to create more facilities for our troops so they can accomplish tasks professionally," he said.
Referring to ongoing clashes between security forces and insurgents, he said that over the past 10 months there have been at least 15 operations a day in different parts of the country.
"Our soldiers must know that all government institutions support them," he said.
"I again call on religious scholars, civil society organizations and the people to support the army - our forces defend our national pride and dignity," he added.
n he thanked India for its recent gift of attack helicopters, three of which have already been delivered. A fourth one is expected to arrive soon.
Meanwhile in his address to guests at the event, acting minister of defense Masoom Stanekzai said that the new MoD building is representative of the country's strong and capable army.
He said the building will be used as a symbol of national defense.
He went on to thank international partners that helped in the construction of the building which is estimated to have cost between $160 million and $200 million USD.
According to officials the building has over 700 rooms and has the capacity to accommodate 1,000 employees. It is also an extremely high-tech building with heavy security.
