SCA conducted a week-long training for mainstream school teachers, in order to increase enrollment of children with disabilities in mainstream schools in three eastern provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar and Laghman.
The purpose of the training was to enhance the capacity of teachers on Braille and Sign Language, as tools for teaching children with visual and hearing impairments. The ministry of Education remain in full cooperation in conducting the training. 51 mainstream school teachers participated in the weeklong training, which took place in Provincial Education Department Alai High School Jalalabad city.
Provincial Education Director of Nangarhar Mr. Allah Dad Ismailzai and Rehabilitation of Afghans with Disabilities (RAD) Programme Project Manager in Nangarhar Mr. Sultan Mohammad Nasary opened the training with their remarks.
The Director of Education Mr. Allah Dad Ismailzai offered his remarks about the importance of Inclusive Education and the role and effort of Swedish Committee for Afghanistan. He added that “this it is the right of children with disabilities to learn and acquire education and we are responsible for offering and delivering that right with support from international organizations such as SCA”.
Teachers Mr. Mohammad Mureed Behsoodi of Nangarhar High School, Mr. Sherzaman of Barkandi High SchoolKunar and Mr. Abdul Mateen of Ali khel High School Laghman said, that they have learned the responsibilities of teachers, parents and community towards educational rights of children with disabilities and this training was amazing.
Mr. Mohammad Mureed Behsoodi of Nangarhar High School said,“SCA should expand the special and inclusive education program to rural areas”. Mr. Abdul Mateen of Ali khel High School Laghman suggested that “we need to continue with these types of training in future for capacity building purposes of the teachers”.
