A canal project, irrigating nearly 1,050 hectares of land and protecting thousands of acres from flooding, was inaugurated upon completion in Behsud district of eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday by Eng. Nasir Ahmad Durrani, the Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD).
The project, executed by the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development has completed at a sum of USD one million and 490 thousand. Also with the completion of retaining wall project of Toghchi Canal, Nangarhar-Kunar high way have been secured from the risks of flash floods.
Addressing those at the inaugural ceremony of Toghchi-Behsud infrastructure project, the MRRD Minister said, “The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development has completed a total of 4171
projects from 1382 to 1393 [solar year] throughout 22 districts of Nangarhar province at a sum of USD 83 million and 400 thousand. But, only from the beginning of National Unity Government to the end of Saratan month of current solar year, 1366 projects have been completed in various villages of Nangarhar by the MRRD worth of USD 39 million and 400 thousand. Currently, about 2.5 million rural residents are benefiting these projects directly and indirectly. Of course, out of 1366 projects, 443 have been completed during last seven months of current solar year at a budget of USD 12 million.”
Also the Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development termed this project as very important and stated that the completion of this project enables rural farmers of Behsud district of Nangarhar province to have three seasonal farming lands. Increasing their products and yields to 35 per cent, this project undoubtedly will help rural farmers boost their economy.
