Two suspects have been detained with more than 22 tonnes of explosives and six landmines in northern Takhar province, an official said on Tuesday.
The explosives were seized from shops close to the Shahrawan bridge in Taloqan, the governor’s spokesman, Sunnatullah Timuri, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said the contraband had been placed in 542 sacks.
In Kabul, a statement from the Ministry of Interior said explosives were to be used in making landmines and suicide attacks.
Five jerry cans of explosives and a remote-controlled mine was recovered by intelligence operatives in Yangi Qala district, the gubernatorial spokesman said.
