At least six Taliban were killed and a dozen others wounded when militants stormed security forces base in the Guram district of northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Saturday.
Governor Spokesman Ahmad Navid Farotan told Pajhwok Afghan News the gun battle started when insurgents mounted attack at security forces base from three sides in the Ragak and Pul-i-Soch localities.
He said security forces remained unhurt during the firefight that lasted for around eight hours.
Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the fighting was still ongoing but he had no details about casualties.
The residents of Ragak complained about continuous fighting between security forces and rebels. A local Habibullah said both sides should halt fighting keeping in view the holy month of Ramadan.
