A two day training and awareness seminar on Identification and Formalization of Small and Artisanal Mines was held to technical staff of north zone provincial offices (Balkh, Sar-e-Pul, Nimroz, Jowzjan, and Faryab) and small and medium mining investors on July 27 – 28, 2015 at conference hall of Baran Imperatory Hotel.
Artisanal & Small Mining Directorate with technical and financial assistance of the Afghanistan Resource Corridors Project (ARCP) held the seminar which aimed to illustrate identification and formalization policy of artisanal and small-scale mining, self-protection equipment, information on open pit and close pit extraction, types of crushers in mining industry, general loading and offloading regulations of explosives, and contracting permit issuance procedure of stones and gravel.
At the opening, Mr. Habibullah “Kohmand” Balkh Mines and Petroleum Director focused on importance of extractive industries and natural resources in sustainable economic development and assured about overall assistance of Balkh Mines and Petroleum Directorate in order to provide feasible environment for private sector investors. Meanwhile, he called it effective to convene such instructive and technical seminar.
Afterward, Mr. Mohammad Zubair Omer, Senior Private Sector Development Specialist of ARCP enlightened the role of resource corridor in improving the livelihoods and explained different approaches to increase the capabilities of local content and domestic private sector along north resource corridor.
