A dozen militants suffer casualties in Ghormach clash

ana-soldier03A dozen insurgents suffered casualties during a clash with security personnel in the Ghormach district of northeastern province of Faryab, officials said on Saturday.


After the district was retaken by the government two days ago, the militants clashed with the security personnel Ghormach, a statement from the 209th Shaheen Military Corps said.

The Taliban destroyed a mosque, parts of the district headquarters building, smashed doors to shops and looted goods during their control of Ghormach, the statement said.

About 20 checkpoints in the district have been recaptured, with the authorities trying to take control of the rest and hand them over to police, the statement added.
