Seven militants were killed and another six injured during a security operation and a blast in western Faryab province, officials said on Thursday.
Four fighters were killed and six others wounded during a joint operation by Afghan forces in Chalgazi and Qaisar areas, said Maj. Gen. Mohammad Reza Reza, a spokesman for the 209th Shaheen Military Corps.The security forces overran a Taliban check-post in the area, he said, adding insurgents would charge 1,000 afghanis each vehicle passing the check-post.
Six landmines were detected and defused during the offensive that left two soldiers injured, the official said.
Pashtun Kot district chief Abdul Qadir Qadiri said three Taliban militants were killed in a blast caused by their own explosives in Ghar Tepa area of the district.
He said the Taliban launched attacks on border police posts in the area early Thursday morning, but faced stiff resistance.
Border police chief in the area, Mohammad Zahir, said the three insurgents were killed when they attempted to plant a bomb in a school.
