A suicide attacker blew himself up after being chased by security forces before reaching his target in western Herat province on Wednesday, injuring a civilian, an official said.
Herat police spokesman Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News the attacker on a bike blew himself after security forces chased him in the Injeel district. He said one civilian was injured in the blast that occurred at around 5pm.
An intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the attacker intended to reach Herat City.
His possible targets were the spy department or the police headquarters, he believed. He claimed two civilians were wounded in the blast and they were in stable condition.
Inajeel district is located along the Herat-Kandahar Highway near Herat City, the provincial capital.
