A four-day domestic product expo opened in Herat on Tuesday with 65 local factories participating.
The factories – all from the Herat industrial park – collectively have 50 stalls at the expo.
Speaking at the opening of the event, Heart governor Mohammad Asif Rahimi called on government to help promote the domestic manufacturing industry and to use locally produced goods.
"We have taken the necessary steps in support of domestic products. For this purpose, we are calling on all government institutions to use domestic products," Rahimi said.
Head of the Herat industrialists union Hamidullah Khadim said the exhibition will help develop and enhance public awareness about domestic products and educate people on what is available so they can use these instead of imported versions.
"Out of 470 companies in Herat industrial park 200 of them are operational. One of the effective ways that can help introduce and develop domestic products is by holding such expos so that we can introduce our own products to the local market," Khadim said.
In addition, the local business community has welcomed the move to run the expo, which they say will help generate local support for their products. Se
curity officials in the city have also pledged their commitment to fighting insurgents in a bid to keep residents and business people safe.
